Townsend Press is pleased to make certain books and materials available at no charge. Following are eight different offers:

Offer 1: For Schools

If your school participates in the National School Lunch Program, we’ll send you five boxed sets of eight of our popular Bluford books (40 books in all). In addition, we’ll send you five copies of seven other paperbacks (The Bully; Animal Rescue; Letters My Mother Never Read; Everyday Heroes; Great Stories of Suspense and Adventure, Abraham Lincoln; and Making the Most of Your LIfe).  

To receive the books, you must contact us through the mail—not by e-mail.

Your letter of request should indicate just how you will use the books at your school, and the letter must be signed by the media specialist (or the literacy coach) and the principal. There is a limit of one order per school.

Offer 2: For Schools and Colleges

Upon request, we’ll send you 10 copies of our adult mentor books: Brother to Brother: Black Men Speak to Young Black Men; Sister to Sister: Black Women Speak to Young Black Women; and Voces Latinas: Hispanic Adults Speak to Hispanic Young People.

To receive the books, you must contact us by mail on your school or college letterhead—not by e-mail. Send your letter to:

Your letter of request should indicate which of the three books you want and just how you will use the books. The letter must be signed by you and your principal or department chair. 

Offer 3: For Anyone

Offer 4: For Students

Three Keys to Doing Well in School, a concise and practical guide to student success, is available as a free download. Click here for your copy.

Offer 5: For Teachers and Program Coordinators 

If you are a teacher (from middle school through college) who wants a set of reading motivation posters and a copy of the booklet 60 Good Books to Read, e-mail your request to posters@townsendpress.com. Tell us how and where you intend to use the posters, and we’ll send you a set of five, along with the booklet, at no charge. In addition, we will include two newly-printed inspirational posters shown here.

Offer 6: For Reading Teachers Using our Ten Steps Books 

If you are a teacher who uses any of our TEN STEPS books, you can receive at no charge one book from the Townsend Library and Bluford Books for every TEN STEPS reading book you order from us. Click here for more information. E-mail your request to Customer Service at cs@townsendpress.com

Offer 7: For College Reading Teachers

If you are a reading instructor in a U.S. college and have never used a Townsend Press reading book in one of your classes, we’ll send you, at no charge, enough copies of either a TEN STEPS reading book or GROUNDWORK FOR COLLEGE READING for you to use with your students in one class. E-mail your request to Customer Service at cs@townsendpress.com.

Offer 8: For Community Organizations 

If you are working in a poverty-level school (in grades 6 or above), or with a youth service organization such as PAL or Big Brothers Big Sisters, or a juvenile detention facility, a homeless or women’s shelter, or comparable social service organization with limited funding, and you want Bluford and selected Townsend Library books, send a request in writing to:
