Common Core Anchor Standards (Grades 6–12) Fulfilled by the
Bluford Series Teacher’s Guide
As you strive to meet the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in your classroom, you will find a key ally in the Bluford Series and its Teacher’s Guide (TG). Offering a well-rounded treatment of the stories, our TG materials prompt students to use a variety of cognitive, verbal, reading, and writing skills along the way. Every story and its corresponding TG supplements cover the CCSS Anchor Standards for Grades 6–12 itemized below, in the following categories: Reading, Writing, Speaking & Listening, and Language.
The Bluford Teacher’s Guide Item Analysis with CCSS Annotations, which lists the specific skill areas covered in every Bluford TG, references the below codes to demonstrate where and how the Bluford Series fulfills specific CCSS Anchor Standards.
CCSS Anchor Standards citations are coded as follows: The abbreviation of the instructional strand’s name and then the standard number. So the standard labeled “R.3” indicates the “Reading” strand, standard number three, which is “Analyze how and why individuals, events, and ideas develop and interact over the course of a text.” For a complete listing of the CCSS, please visit www.corestandards.org.
